The NHS provide useful guidance on common childhood illness and things to consider when thinking about ‘is my child well enough for school?’

Administration of Medication in school
If your child is well enough to attend school but needs medication during the course of the school day, this can be administered at school. Parents need to fill in an Administration of Medication Form, available from the school reception, authorising school staff to administer it. This form along with the medication should be handed to the Administration team.
Children cannot carry medications in school and all medicines need to be dropped off and collected through the School Office by an adult.
Asthma
If your child has been diagnosed with asthma this information should be recorded on the Medical & Dietary Information Form, that is completed before your child starts school. Upon receiving this information, you will be sent further information about how this is managed in school along with asthma paperwork to complete.
Other Medical Conditions
If your child has a medical condition that may need support / monitoring in school, we will put in place a Healthcare Plan to support their needs.
Head Lice
From time to time, we have cases of head lice and if left untreated they spread very quickly from child to child.
Any cases of head lice should be reported to the school, these matters are treated sensitively and kept confidential. On such occasions, Ping messages are sent out to inform parents of the affected classes. Parents are asked to check their children’s hair regularly.
NHS Community Health Programmes
The NHS deliver a range of services at school; in EYFS and Year 6 they conduct their childhood height and weight programme and each year offer the flu vaccination to all primary aged children. Detailed information is sent to parents about these programmes.
